Staying healthy is a nightmarish haze of kale smoothies, endless jogging routes, sweaty shorts, mind-numbing calisthenics and meals that look about as appetising as your pet dog’s Pedigree Chum.
Or at least, that’s what it can sometimes feel like. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a struggle for a lot of us, not least because we’ve been raised on diets of processed food, bargain basement takeaways and enough fizzy juice to make a large man burp forever.
But what if you’re not one of these lazy sad sacks? What if you love nothing more than a 10 mile jog at the crack of dawn and an avocado sandwich for breakfast? What if you bore your mates down the pub with adventurous tales of the time you did 1000 sit ups in under half an hour (they’re drinking beer, you’re drinking a asparagus and cucumber in water)?
Then you’re a fitness fanatic, my friend – and a career in the world of good health could be ideal for you.
Getting qualified
Despite your rippling abs and finely toned frame, you’ll need more than hefty muscles to prove your worth to the owner of a gym. You’ll need qualifications.
While there are plenty of personal training courses available online, these catch-all qualifications won’t make you stand out from the crowd. Instead, choose something a little more niche like pilates instructor courses. These can be completed online and will give you a subtle edge over other trainers.
When you learn something like Pilates, your body will stay naturally supple – and it’s a good idea to make it stay that way if you want to remain in business.
Your body is the best advert for your skills. It’s why Vin Diesel gets hired for action movies and Johnny Vegas gets hired for comedies.
But once you’re qualified and feel fit enough to apply for a job, what are your options?
Time to get paid
The most obvious avenue you can travel down is to work in a private gym, a prospect that’s become a lot easier since the proliferation of low-budget gyms flooded the market.
Braches of Pure Gym, for example, hire several private trainers to ply their trade whenever customers come to visit – and they can make a pretty penny for their efforts.
The other alternative is to do home visits, providing customers with a one-on-one service that will give them a bespoke workout session. Although this will most likely pay more over time, creating a solid foundation of customers will take time and expertise.
Either way, the option is yours. So if you’re feeling fighting fit, you know what you should do.
