A lot of us maintain an online business – or several of them – these days. There may also be family members and relatives who run their own online businesses and make a living out of them. For small businesses run from home, information security is more important than ever. Small businesses often don’t have the multiple redundancies and off-site backup systems used by larger corporations to protect their information. More importantly, smaller businesses are more prone to information theft and other potential issues.

A recent set of studies complied by Champlain College revealed how important protecting privacy and digital information really is. Information theft can cause anything from a nuisance to complete business shutdown in certain cases. Fortunately, 89% of security breaches and data loss incidents can actually be prevented.
