Sometimes the best family holidays are when you pile into a car and drive to Cornwall or Wales and rent a cottage for a week. Some people just simple assume that hotels make for the better holidays, but these people are wrong and I’m going to prove it by going through all the reasons why renting one of the private, child friendly cottages is oodles better than any hotel.
Privacy
One of the main reasons a family would choose a cottage over a hotel is because a cottage offers so much more privacy – something a hotel doesn’t. You can do what you want, when you want and you have no one else’s needs to think about, but your own. Because most cottages are so old and made from stone, sound rarely escapes them, meaning you and your kids can be as loud as you want, without anyone noticing.
Family Meals
Sitting in a hotel restaurant with your kids is rarely as comfortable as it is when you’re alone in your cottage with no one else around to bother. It also means you aren’t tied to times when you eat at the cottage. When you stay in a hotel you have to eat when the hotel serves food, whereas at home you can eat whenever and whatever you like.
Pets
There aren’t many pet friendly hotels and even when they are pet friendly; it’s always a hassle having to let your dog out to do its business, however at your own cottage you can bring your dog to join in on the family fun as well. Think of the memories your kids will have of playing in the sand with their childhood dog. Can’t get those precious memories at a hotel…
Comfort
Let’s just face it: cottages are more comfortable. You can lounge about on the sofa, in the bath, and sit at a dining room table without all the other diners. Plus, you have all the amenities all there; you can even do your own washing and ironing with ease. The towels all wet and sandy and in need of a wash? That’s no problem when you stay at your own cottage!
Entertainment
At a hotel the kids get entertained, which is a big bonus when it comes to accommodation. When you stay in a cottage the children don’t get to take part in all the activities, however a cottage will have a DVD player and you can always bring a games console along. Also, because you are likely in the middle of town or right near a beach, you shouldn’t even need all the activities a hotel provides!
Have I managed to convince you that cottages are the way forward when holidaying with the kids in Britain? Yes, hotels can be fantastic and they do have many amazing qualities, but as you can see they aren’t the only option when looking for holiday accommodation. Cottages are wonderful places and they make for excellent and memorable holiday destinations.
