As part of the #InstagramYour Car campaign, I recently read a great infographic which gives some great advice about how to take excellent Instagram-worthy photos.
Did you know the Jeep Wrangler is the most Instagrammed car? This is followed by the Honda Civic which is known for sportiness and performance. The third most popular car on Instagram is the Mazda3 with more than 600,000 hashtags.
If you’re thinking about Instagramming your car, here are some top tips to help you get the best photos:
Choose the right time and place
If you take photos of your car in the middle of the day, the sun will create harsh shadows and the photos won’t be as good. At sunrise and sunset, the light is more flattering because it’s much softer. You can find what times the sun will rise and set by checking online and plan your photos accordingly.
The same goes for choosing your location carefully. If you don’t choose the right backdrop, you may find it difficult to get the best snaps. Think about what type of vehicle you have and what type of location would complement it.
Consider angles and reflections
You’re unlikely to get the most flattering photos by shooting directly at the car. That’s why you should take your time playing with different angles so your images will be more cool and creative. Every now and then, reposition your car to find more angles. Make sure you think about reflections as well, since these can ruin your pictures by spoiling the shine, lines, and curves of your vehicle.
Take inside photos
Photos taken from the inside of your car will give a different perspective and help keep things fresh on Instagram. Think about other pictures you can take related to your car, such as photos of the engine, replacement car battery, and more. Consider some of the finer details that you would otherwise miss, including the features that make it stand out from other cars like the grille or seat covers.
Don’t forget to edit
Editing is a crucial part of Instagramming your car. Make sure you’re editing your snaps before you share them so you can ensure they look as good as possible. There are plenty of excellent apps you can download for this, including apps like Snapseed and VSCO.
