I love travelling, in fact it’s one of my favourite hobbies in the whole world. However, there’s a lot of down time when traveling which can be quite boring. From hours (or days) spent in airports, to long train, bus or plane rides. Because I’ve travelled a lot, I’ve come up with some ways to keep the boredom as low as possible. Here are my favourite fun ways to kill boredom when traveling:
1) Play Games
Most of us have smart phones, and many of us even travel with iPads or laptops, so why not make the most of them? There’s a bunch of great free games you can download, or you’re in the mood for something more engaging you can try casino games online. There’s a great assortment at http://www.bonus4casino.
2) Write Letters
Let’s get old school here! Why not write letters or postcards to send home while you’re bored in an airport or train station. Traditional mail is so rare these days, especially if it’s not junk mail or a bill, so it’s a very special surprise to get a letter or postcard from someone you love.
3) Talk to Someone
See a traveller who looks a little lost or bored? Why not take a moment to strike up a conversation. Ask them where they’re headed – is it home, or are they off on some exotic trip. It’s a great way to pass the time and also perhaps you’ll make a new friend.
4) Watch a Movie or TV Show
It’s SO easy to get caught up in a movie or TV show, so why not download some to your laptop or smartphone and enjoy it with some headphones while you’re waiting. Even though most planes are equipped with TV screens, I like to have my own series of back up shows and movies just incase I don’t find anything I like.
It doesn’t matter if you’re traveling alone or in a group, a set of cards can be a great way to make an instant game in a boring situation. Maybe you’ll learn a new game, or maybe you’ll lose every turn, but either way you’ll have a great time. Cards are quite small, get a nice case and it will fit easily into your backpack or suitcase. Perfect especially when you’re traveling somewhere that might get power cuts.
Traveling can’t be fun at every second, but with these tips you’ll be able to make it a little less boring during the down time.
