Florida is an underrated state- say what you want about the politics down there, the attractions are first-rate and everyone should visit at least once to see what’s on offer.
If you’re looking for a destination that’s family-friendly, and jam-packed with things to do for kids of all ages, Florida is the perfect choice, and here are some fun things you can do this year:
Make it a road trip
Florida is a large state, and there are so many things to do throughout the state- meaning it will often make sense to hire a car so you don’t need to fly between destinations like Miami and Orlando. You’ll also have the freedom to follow your own schedule and can quickly and easily travel between different places.
Be a kid
Whether you’re taking the kids with you or you just want to pretend to be a kid for the day, the theme parks are the perfect choice, and you can even get your Florida attractions tickets online in advance- saving money and time. Check out the princesses at DisneyWorld, scream your lungs out on the rides at Universal Studios, watch the shows at SeaWorld, and don’t forget to see the animals at Animal Kingdom.
Hang out in Miami
While there are plenty of fun things to do with kids in Miami, and they’re sure to have fun hanging out in the beach, you may want to hire a babysitter at some stage so you can go out and have some adult time. Miami is bursting at the seams with restaurants, clubs, and other hotspots, so throw on your fanciest threads and go party like a VIP at some of the biggest clubs in the country (or, you know, check out some of the live music somewhere more sedate).
Check out the Everglades
The Everglades are super close to Miami, and are awesome regardless of the season, although you may find fewer alligators during winter. Your guide will take you through the everglades on a boat and will give you plenty of cool stories and information about the alligators, so it’s well worth a visit- especially if you have teenagers.
So much to eat
While Florida isn’t known as a culinary state, it should be. Whatever food you’re in the mood for, you’re sure to get your hands on it in Florida- from massive burgers and fries to Michelin-starred restaurants. There are many great Latin American restaurants here, along with Asian, Italian, Mexican, and more.
See the sunset
While you’re likely to see great sunsets throughout Florida, one place stands above the rest- Key West. As the southernmost part of the continental United States, you can sit on the beach at the very tip of the state and watch the sunset. You’ll also be likely to see local boys cliff jumping, and there are many different water sports available to try as well.
