If you’re hoping to improve your look this year, and focus on embracing style and keeping up with the latest trends you’re in luck. We have the low-down on the best men’s fashion, so you can mix and match the latest styles or just choose one or two.
Here’s what you can expect to see for men’s style this year:
Sandals and socks
I know, I know, this has previously been reserved for geeks and nerds. But we’re not talking about old sandals and socks full of holes, but instead think soft, cotton or cashmere knee-highs paired with stylish leather sandals. Expect to see this trend everywhere this year, particularly in spring and autumn, so you may as well embrace it and consider yourself making nerdy cool again.
Jeans are always a must, especially for guys who like to throw on a pair in the morning and consider themselves done. However, this season you can expect to see jeans looking even scruffier, with ripped, bleached and patched detailing- great for a quiet weekend or dressed up with a nice shirt.
If you’re like most guys, you probably sneered at the idea of wearing the ridiculously tight pants of the last few years. You’ll be pleased to know that trousers are now loosening up, giving your legs room to breathe. If you want to look good for your next night out, consider grabbing a pair of relaxed chinos to show off your style.
This trend sounds a little weird, and you could be forgiven for thinking that they’re just way too hipster to be tried. But woven shoes actually look cool, and they’re taking men’s fashion by storm. Even Converse have gotten in on the action, using woven detailing for their Deck Stars and Chuck Taylors.
Here we have yet another example of a typical nerdy accessory undergoing a makeover and becoming the King of cool. Designers have been experimenting with a variety of shapes, sizes and materials, meaning you can take your leather backpack to the gym and then bring it to work and use it as a laptop case. Look for one in either navy or black with some detailing.
Females around the world are breathing a sigh of relief as guys no longer have to choose between pants and teeny-tiny shorts. This year, the shorts are longer, tailored, and even baggier so you can dress them up or down.
If you really want to impress your friends (or girlfriend) a souvenir jacket is the way to go. The history is interesting here, with the jackets gaining in popularity with American soldiers in Japan who commissioned the hand-made jackets and took them back to the state. You’ll notice that the most popular (and expensive) jackets are embroidered with both Western and Eastern iconography, and if you don’t want to go hunting for an original you can find plenty of similar jackets available this year.
