Your home should be your place of sanctuary, somewhere you retreat to at the end of a long and busy day, where you can gather your thoughts and feel, literally, at home. If your place of solace isn’t as comfortable as you would like, then maybe it’s time to start looking at ways you can jig things around a little, to make it the slice of heaven it deserves to be.
Now, there’s no denying that money doesn’t grow on trees, so you might not be in the position to make major renovations and changes, but there are many small and simple ways you can make your house a real home.
Look at your décor and change it up
There is a lot of truth in the saying that colours affect mood, so if you have a colour scheme which is making your house feel cold and unwelcoming, maybe it’s time you got the paint brush out and changed it up a little! Blues and lilacs are cool and relaxing, so if you feel stressed, go sit in a lavender coloured room and see how chilled out you feel! Red is fiery and passionate, and green is said to attract abundance. Basically, decorate your space in way that makes your room feel warm and cosy to you.
Is your furniture uncomfortable?
You’re going to need a little cash for this one, but there are ways you can replace old, uncomfortable furniture on the cheap, such as second hand, or re-working what you already have. Old bed mattresses need changing from time to time, and sofas become a little springy as their life goes on. Identify what pieces of furniture make you feel uncomfortable and do something about them.
Light up your space
Lighting is so important for making your home feel cosy and relaxing. Natural light is uplifting, so make sure your windows aren’t blocked over, and get as much in as you can. Candles are relaxing for dark, winter nights, and fairy lights hung over a bed, or over some shelving, can create a warm and cosy feel for very little cash. Lighting up your house will create a massive difference.
Move things around, and make your room feel new
If you’ve had the same set-up in your living room or bedroom for a long time, change it up and move things around to create a different feel. Maybe your sofa isn’t in the best place for watching the TV, meaning you’re never truly comfortable of an evening, or maybe your bed is directly in the way of the window, so the sunlight streams through and blinds you every morning. Move things around to how you feel fits best.
Get rid of junk
Clutter will make your house feel full of nothing, so have a clear out and get rid of what you don’t need; you could even sell your unwanted things on eBay and see if you could make a profit! Clear some space and give yourself more room.
These are five easy ways to make your home much more comfortable, without breaking the bank.
